I am going to start my fourth, yes fourth, sports blog. Not football, sports. Just generally about sports. I’m good at things other than football.
Opening August 1st.

Comeback Kid?
July 7, 2008 at 4:19 pm | In Miscellanous | 2 CommentsTags: Aaron Rodgers, American Football, Brett Favre, Brian Brohm, Football, Green Bay Packers, NFL, Sports
Reports have surfaced that Brett Favre wants to return to football and make a…err…comeback. But, Green Bay Packers’ officials have not uttered a word about Favre being the starter for Green Bay. Rodgers is a nice QB, but he’s no Favre.
So why haven’t they [Packers] acknowledge a Favre ‘comeback’? They should be embracing a Favre ‘comeback’, not avoiding the issue. Favre has denied these reports of a comeback, and I think it’s stupid even after his teary eyed press conference (see below YouTube video) that he should dishonor the game by getting the itch to play again.
I’ve always respected what Favre did, but I never liked the man. I think that Favre is by far-ve a better QB than Aaron Rodgers. And I don’t think Rodgers is ready. And I also think that Brian Brohm should be the starter, not Rodgers. But, the biggest mistake the Pack has ever made is not uttering a word about a Favre comeback.
Rookie Role Model
July 6, 2008 at 11:40 am | In Miscellanous | 1 CommentTags: 2008 NFL Draft, American Football, Arkansas Razorbacks, Baltimore Ravens, Ben Roethlisberger, Darren McFadden, Delaware Blue Hens, Football, Joe Flacco, L.T, LaDainian Tomlinson, NFL, NFL Rookies, Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Rookies, San Diego Chargers, Sports, TCU Horned Frogs
Lots of NFL Rookies have mentors. But, two offensive rookies stand out to me and remind me of current NFL players that have made the Pro Bowl. Those players? Joe Flacco and Darren McFadden. But, you’d be surprised who they remind me of.

Joe Flacco QB, Baltimore Ravens [Rd 1, Pk 18]

Name: Joe Flacco
College: Delaware (Div. I-AA)
Height: 6-6
Weight: 235 Lbs.
2007 Stats: 4236 Yds, 23 TDs, 5 INTs, 144.9% QB Rating, 63.5% Completion Percentage, 4 Rush TDs
Joe Flacco has a cannon arm (he threw for 74 yards/222 feet in a throwing contest) is fleet of feet (4.86 40 Yard-Dash Time and won a scrambling contest with 15.86 seconds) and is a big dude. Flacco was the second QB taken in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Flacco ran the spread offense at Delaware and was successful doing it.

Ben Roethlisberger QB, Pittsburgh Steelers (Rd 1, Pk 11, 2004)
![]()
Name: Ben Roethlisberger
College: Miami, OH (Div. I-AA)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 240 Lbs.
2007 Stats: 3154 Yds, 32 TDs 11 INTs, 104.1% QB Rating, 65.3% Completion Percentage, 3 Rush TDs
Big Ben is a refined version of Joe Flacco. He’s big, he’s got a big arm, he can run when he needs to, and, he came from a small school. You can’t tell whether or not I’m talking about Joe Flacco or Ben Roethlisberger. Which just proves my point. If the Ravens coaching staff can refine Joe Flacco, then Flacco will be able to show off that arm of his in the pros.

Darren McFadden RB, Oakland Raiders (Rd 1, Pk 4)

Name: Darren McFadden
Age: 20
Height: 6-1
Weight: 210
2007 Stats (College): Rushing – 13 Games, 325 Attempts, 1830 Yds, 16 TDs, 5.6 AVG, 4 Fumbles
Receiving – 13 Games, 21 Receptions, 164 Yds, 7.8 AVG, 1 TD
Passing – 13 Games, 11 Attempts, 6 Completions, 124 Yds, 4 TDs, 0 INTs
Run D.M.C is a freak. He has good size (6-1, 210) and is sick fast (4.33 40-Yd Dash) and that’s why he was the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft taken by the Raiders. He can do everything: Run, Catch, Return, and heck, he can even THROW. He put up amazing numbers at Arkansas, despite splitting carries with Felix Jones (even though it was 75-25 in his favor) He will also do so in Oakland by splitting carries with Justin Fargas.

LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers (Rd 1, Pk 5, 2001)

Name: LaDainian Tomlinson
Age: 28
College: TCU
Height: 5-11
Weight: 220 Lbs.
2007 Stats: Rushing - 16 Games, 315 Attempts, 1474 Yds, 15 TDs, 4.7 AVG, 0 Fumbles
Receiving - 16 Games, 60 Receptions, 475 Yds, 3 TDs, 7.9 AVG
Passing – 16 Games, 1 Attempt, 1 Completion, 17 Yds, 1 TD, 0 INTs
L.T can do it all. He can run by you, he can juke you, he can run you over, he can catch, and he can throw. McFadden can do all of these too. Just not as well. If McFadden blossoms, he has a slight chance he could be the next LaDainan Tomlinson.

We all know that the 1st rounders are the highly-touted next-up stars in the NFL (although most don’t pan out) and that the 2nd rounders are the guys that slipped or that are key role players for a team (although some don’t pan out)
But, on day two, some real stars are made. These are the ten players that are most likely to be successful this year that were drafted in the 3rd round, 4th round, 5th round, 6th round, 7th round, or maybe even an undrafted player. Here it is, your Second-Day Studs.

Football Triumphs Over Rugby
July 3, 2008 at 1:39 pm | In Miscellanous | 1 CommentTags: American Football, Football, NFL, Quentin Jammer, Rugby, Rugby and Football, Sports, Tackles
This is a bit late, but, it’s exciting. Rugby players always talk a bunch of s*** about how football is a ‘p****’ sport. I get into arguments all the time with my dad – a former rugby player – about which is harder: rugby or football.
And the Sunday before last, our debate was answered. A show on FSN called ‘Sports Science’ had an episode called ‘Gear Factor’ and it covered how gear affected sports. Questions like which hurts more: a cricket pitch or a baseball pitch? Who’s arm moves faster: a baseball pitcher or an NFL QB? And of course, which hurts more: a rugby (wussy) tackle or a football (manly) tackle? Football won.
A huge rugby center (like 6′3 230 lbs) tackled another rugby player who had equipment attached to him. The force was 1,600 Lbs of force. Then an NFL CB, Quentin Jammer (215 lbs) tackled a crash-test dummy that had sensors in it. He recorded a whopping 4,576 Lbs of force!!! They said it’s equivalent to a ‘35 MPH car crash’
So, in conclusion, rugby players don’t hit as hard as football players.
Who’s the p**** now you rugby players?
Two Best Images of the 2007 NFL Season

They are not in order. This is just my opinion, some pics may have been overlooked
Antonio Cromartie (left) picks off a Peyton Manning pass intended for Reggie Wayne.
David Tyree (middle) uses his head to catch a pass from a scrambling Eli Manning in the Super Bowl.
