Hot Read – 2007 NFC West

I was dissapointed. I thought that the NFC West would be a firepower division. Seriously think about it. Seriously!
The Cardinals – Matt Leinart, Edgerrin James, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, Above Average O-Line
The 49ers – Alex Smith, Frank Gore, Darnell Jackson, Vernon Davis, Above Average O-Line
The Seahawks – Matt Hasselbeck, Shaun Alexander, Deion Branch, Good O-Line
The Rams – Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Average O-Line
They didn’t meet expectations.
Think about it. It should have been a great offensive division
Hot Read – Draft Invitees
July 2, 2008 at 1:25 am | In Hot Reads | 1 CommentThere are annually six of them. This year it was Jake Long, OT (Michigan); Chris Long, DE (Virginia); Matt Ryan, QB (Boston College); Darren McFadden, RB (Arkansas); Glenn Dorsey, DT (LSU); and Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB (Ohio State)
And everybody that was invited, was taken in the Top 6. No more Brady Quinn-esque uncomfortability of dropping so far. (He was considered a Top 5 but wound up 22nd)
So, this is who should be invited to the draft, to ensure that everyone invited goes in the Top 6.
Best Quarterback
Best Running Back
Best O-Lineman
Best D-Lineman
Best Linebacker
Best Defensive Back
or
The Best Six Players in the Country according to Heisman voting
or
Have the NFL project a mock draft and invite the players who received the most votes about going into the Top 6.
Hot Read – Looking Back at the Draft
July 2, 2008 at 1:18 am | In Hot Reads | Leave a CommentWhat will I remember the 2008 NFL Draft by? Running backs. Darren McFadden, Arkansas; Felix Jones, Arkansas; Jonathon Stewart, Oregon; Chris Johnson, ECU; Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois.
All 1st-rounders.
Then we have our second-rounders. Small school studs like Kevin Smith (UCF) and Matt Forte (Tulane) early Heisman candidates Ray Rice (Rutgers) and Steve Slaton (West Virginia) and other quality players such as Tashard Choice (Georgia Tech) Mike Hart (Michigan) and Jamaal Charles (Texas) There are others, but those are the guys I think about.
Great RB class.
But also the receivers, tackles, and cornerbacks class. But mainly running backs
Hot Read – Rookie Salary Cap
July 2, 2008 at 1:12 am | In Hot Reads | 1 CommentTags: American Football, Football, Jake Long, Matt Ryan, NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Salary Cap, Rookie Salary Cap, Salary Cap, Sports
Does the NFL need to implement a rookie salary cap? No, they don’t. Should they? Well, my answer might surprise you. No. I think it’s good for the GM-part of the game. If we limit the amount of money a team can spend on rookies, then what happens is that busts don’t become as big a factor.
