Miami Should Buy a Cadillac

Teammates in college, Ronnie Brown (left) and Carnell “Cadillac” Williams (right) have not obtained the success in the pros as they did when they were a 1-2 Punch at Auburn; despite the fact that they are not splitting carries in the pros.

Ronnie was the bruiser back; Cadillac was the fast, quick back. And even though Carnell won the 2005 AP NFL Rookie of the Year, he hasn’t had the same measure of success as he did in college when he was splitting carries with Ronnie at Auburn.

Last year, both their seasons were cut short with injuries. Turns out they have much more in common than just being Top 5 Picks in ‘05 – Brown went second overall, Williams went fifth – to Florida teams (Miami, Tampa Bay respectively) So, what would it take for them to join forces in the pros. Tampa Bay needs help at DE. Miami needs help at QB, and at RB depth. Miami supposedly wants to unload Jason Taylor. So, here’s what would have to go down for Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams to rejoin forces in the pros.

Tampa Bay Gets: Jason Taylor DE, Ricky Williams RB, Josh McCown QB, 1st-round pick

Miami Gets: Carnell Williams RB, Jeff Garcia QB, 2nd-round pick

Even though this trade won’t happen, it makes sense. Miami unloads Taylor’s large contract, gets a good QB to mentor Henne, and has the greatest RB Duo in the NFL for years to come. Thus improving their record by at least three games.

Tampa Bay gets a great defensive end who is a Top 5 Defender, no doubt; gets a solid RB to pair with Earnest Graham; and gets a first round pick to replace Taylor next year, which will probably be a Top 10 Pick.

I love both players (Brown, Williams) but neither of them has surpassed their single-season high yardage record they had in college, even though they split carries in college. Does that make sense? I remember having a conversation with my dad when I was younger.

Me – “Hey dad, how come that player [Carnell Williams] is coming out of the game?”

My Dad – “Well, another running back [Ronnie Brown] is coming into the game…”

Me – “But why? I mean he [Carnell Willaims] just got a bunch of yards.”

My Dad – “Because that’s what the coach decided [Tommy Tuberville] he thinks it works.”

And it did. So, shouldn’t it work in the pros? I hope this trade happens.
